Final Major Project

This final major project involved illustrating an original alphabet book, the theme could be anything imaginable. I chose the current theme of Glastonbury as it's full of diverse and vibrant characters, events and objects to illustrate. The atmosphere created over the weekend is something people come back for every year, I wanted to capture some of these memories and give people a playful, imaginative alternative for reliving the experience. Each letter has common items associated with the festival, as well as a notable band or artist to identify, this invitation to puzzle solve and seek out all the answers will keep people interested and hopefully spot something new each time they pick up the book.

Personal Work

This is a collection of personal work, I love to explore new techniques and experiment with styles.

Negotiated Project

For this negotiated project I chose to illustrate CD artwork for the Icelandic singer Hafdis Huld. This included a cd template (with booklet), poster and merchandise. I used pencil as the main medium because it had the right tone of voice for the artist and her music, a timeless value that can live on. The pattern in the background was created using grid paper, it reflects the changing motions of the music, as well as the diverse weather found in Iceland. This was a successful project.

Self Promotion

This project was geared around creating a self promotional item and a portfolio. After conducting research into effective ways of gaining that all important attention from clients and agencies, I decided that a fun-size cereal box would be an imaginative and memorable item to produce. The box contains my portfolio on a usb stick, a calendar on illustrated cards with a stand and a pencil, also some cereal (if stock is available). I also created a separate, more appropriate, portfolio in a theme that wasn't associated with this design.

Competition Briefs

This project involved book illustrations for Wind in the Willows and The Bloody Chamber, various outcomes were explored.

Visual Skills 2B

This brief was on the theme of dreaming, we had the choice of two articles to illustrate from, I chose the text that contained human tests involving tetris and how we carry on learning in our sleep. This editorial challenge was inspiring for me, I learnt a lot about illustrator and conveying messages during this project.

Visual Skills 2A

This project involved designing a magazine cover for an illustration agency, I chose to combine different illustration techniques and styles into one composition, as this gives a representation of the illustration industry as a whole. The mixed media includes pencil, coloured pencil, pen & ink, photography, vector and digital painting.
